"I wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation helped venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by floods, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues received funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.
